This year's South West Built Environment Awards produced yet
another crop of worthy winners, including CosyHome Company (UK)
Ltd, who came out on top in the Environmental Technologies iNet
sponsored 'Sustainability' category.
Organised by Constructing Excellence South West and the
Chartered Institute of Buildings, the annual initiative celebrates
good practice across the construction industry, with last year's
winners going on to achieve a higher number of national awards than
any other region of the UK.
Speaking after the presentation evening held at the Bristol
Marriott Hotel, Director of the Environmental Technologies iNet,
Professor Martin Bigg, explained why the project was so keen to get
involved.
"Sustainable construction is a key focus area for the iNet," he
said. "We are dedicated to supporting cutting edge technologies and
innovations that have a positive impact on resource efficiency,
design, material use and energy consumption in relation to the
built environment.
"These awards recognise excellence across the construction
sector, but a number of the categories are particularly aligned
with our aims and activities - the 'SME' and 'Innovation' awards
for example, as well as the 'Sustainability' category which we were
proud to sponsor this year.
"It has been fantastic to see such a diverse range of winners
and highly commended nominations, from recently formed small and
medium sized enterprises, through to larger, well established
companies. The South West sector is clearly benefitting from high
levels of innovation and good practice.
"By working with partner organisations such as Constructing
Excellence South West, the iNet is aiming to assist both
established sustainable construction businesses that are looking to
grow and emerging ideas, technologies, products and services that
will have an impact on the future of building design and
construction.
"On this evening's evidence, there is certainly no shortage of
innovative enterprises operating in this area that we can provide
with free, impartial business support."
Bristol
City Council, an Environmental Technologies iNet consortium
partner, picked up the 'Client of the Year' award in recognition of
its success in ensuring the city has a stable construction supplier
base and that local economy and employment opportunities are well
supported.
About Constructing Excellence
South West:
Constructing Excellence is the single organisation charged with
driving the change agenda in construction. They exist to improve
industry performance in order to produce a better built
environment.
They are a cross-sector, cross-supply chain, member-led
organisation, operating for the good of the industry and its
stakeholders and have a presence in all regions including the South
West.
About CosyHome Company (UK) Ltd:
Hartland based CosyHome Company (UK) Ltd was established in
April 2010 by Muki Mitchell and Paul Dickinson. They provide
comprehensive insulation for period and other properties in order
to reduce carbon emissions and meet consumer demand to mitigate
rising fuel costs.
The company has developed and tested a unique plexiglass
secondary glazing system which is ideal for period properties. It
costs around 40% off the cost of double-glazing and, combined with
draft exclusion and enhanced loft insulation, has an attractive
average pay back period of just four years. This makes it one of
the safest and highest returning investments available today.
